The Down Syndrome Association Malta (DSAM) continues to champion inclusion, empowerment, and community spirit, ensuring that every individual with Down syndrome has the opportunity to thrive.

Friendship Circle -
Five Years Strong

Our Friendship Circle Programme, now in its fifth year, gives young adults with Down syndrome opportunities to build independence, social skills, and confidence through sleepovers, community outings, and interactive sessions. Participants set personal goals, explore employment options, and gain the tools to lead more independent lives.

A New Space for Growth

In early 2025, we proudly opened our new  Multi-sensory and Playroom, a vibrant and inclusive space made possible through funding from MCVS. Officially inaugurated by Hon. Minister Julia Farrugia, the room is thoughtfully designed to provide a rich variety of sensory play and therapeutic activities. It offers children and young adults opportunities to explore, engage, and develop essential skills in a safe, stimulating, and Opening of DSAM’s Multisensory and Playroom, a joyful environment that encourages learning and offering a space for exploration and creativity.

Events that Connect and Inspire

From high teas and family picnics to awareness campaigns, DSAM creates spaces where families connect, share experiences, and build friendships. These events also help shift public perceptions by showcasing the abilities and potential of our members.

Amplifying Voices – Locally and Across Europe

As an active member of MFOPD, EDSA, and EU for Trisomy 21, DSAM ensures Malta’s voice is heard on a national and European stage. Young members take part in self-advocacy training, speaking confidently at schools, conferences, and in the media to challenge stereotypes.

Looking Ahead

We are excited to launch a Supported Entrepreneurship Pilot Project to guide young people with intellectual disabilities toward self-employment and economic independence.

From community events to policy advocacy, DSAM remains committed to building a more inclusive Malta – one where everyone belongs, contributes, and shines.
